Powerhouse Performances Jazz up our Riverfront!

July 27

Jazz is alive and thriving… especially in your Park! The first Thursday evening of each month this summer, Jazz at Pier 84 has brought the music of tremendous performers to our largest public pier. The new series has proved an instant hit with Park fans, and it’s not hard to see – or hear – why. When music and venue appealingly align, there’s a certain magic for audience and artist alike.

To make that magic happen, we’ve partnered with the Jazz Foundation of America, an organization whose mission is to help musicians in need by providing funds and opportunities to work. The Jazz at Pier 84 performances are part of a newer JFA initiative to bring the incredible artists they serve to perform free public concerts – providing meaningful work for the musicians and a unique opportunity for the community to enjoy free performances from some truly impressive jazz legends.

Jazz at Pier 84 has been one of the hallmarks of this initiative, and the low-key atmosphere, stunning setting and attentive audiences have made this series a joy for all involved. We’re excited to see such an avid community of jazz enthusiasts build in our Park, and to hear an underappreciated legend like George Braith, who performed on June 1, absolutely transfix an audience – we can’t think of a better way to enjoy a summer evening.

So, mark your calendars! Our final Jazz at Pier 84 of the season on Thursday, August 3 at 7 PM features Greg Lewis and the Organ Monk Trio, known for bringing the tremendous repertory of jazz pianist and composer Thelonious Monk to the organ. Trust us, you won’t want to miss their dynamic sound.

Can’t get enough riverfront music? Sunset on the Hudson brings great local music to Pier 45 every Friday evening through August 18, and Blues BBQ is just around the corner on August 19, promising a full day of delicious barbeque and fantastic music. Hot tunes meet cool Hudson breezes – a #PerfectPair for sure!
