Macroplastics

Marine debris continues to pose water quality challenges to the Hudson River.  For the last five years, HRP has collected and categorized macroplastics, plastics larger than 1in, from the Park’s Gansevoort Peninsula in partnership with Brooklyn College and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA.)

Macroplastics

Hudson River Park uses the NOAA marine debris protocol to collect and monitor debris found on the Park’s soft shoreline at Gansevoort Peninsula. In 2018, over 100 volunteers supported this project to collect and categorize 6,200 of marine debris collectively weighing 1,000lbs. This work removes trash from our shoreline and provides information that helps us examine the distribution, concentration and variability of debris in the Park’s waters.
