Swimming in the Hudson River within the park is only permitted within sanctioned, organized events. Hudson River Park is proud to host several swims and races organized by NYC Swim each year. At least one of these swims uses Pier 96 in Clinton Cove as its start or end point.

If you're interested in participating in an official Hudson River race, contact our partner, NYC Swim. You can sign up for one or more swims held annually from June – September. Many swims either start or finish in the Park; they range in length from .5 to 7.8 miles. If you're really strong, you can also compete in the Manhattan Island marathon swim which is 28 miles in length.

All of the races are timed to coincide with a favorable current in the Hudson. The swims have been developed to serve both experienced and novice open water swimmers.

Each swim requires submission of qualifications which can be met through pool swimming and/or previous open water experience, depending on the length of the swim.
