Saturday Sept 16 - Dive into SUBMERGE NYC Marine Science Festival!

September 12

This Saturday, September 16, celebrate our coastal waters at SUBMERGE NYC Marine Science Festival with a day of scientific discovery and estuary exploration. Meet the creatures thriving in our waters, enjoy interviews with notable scientists, paddle on the Hudson River, watch a scuba diver delve far beneath its surface, and lots more.

With so much to do and see at this year’s festival, we couldn’t wait to give you a peek at all the fun. So come on, let’s take the first plunge into SUBMERGE!

Get up-close and personal with Hudson River wildlife

Drop in a line at Big City Fishing, then see what’s swimming in the Hudson during the River Project’s SCUBA dive demonstrations. Keep an eye out for our Roving River tricycle, where you can interact with these creatures up close, or head over to the interactive touch tank in our River Ranger Kids Zone.

Excite the scientist within at our River Ranger Kids Zone and Discovery Lab

River Ranger Kids Zone invites budding scientists to conduct experiments, learn about the Hudson River food web, and build, design and explore the power of water. Check out our Discovery Lab for some citizen science and the opportunity to examine river water under a microscope, build plankton models and create oyster habitat.

Catch awesome experiments, dynamic performances and comedic interviews

This year’s Science Stage features a tremendous lineup. Mad Science will delight with interactive water experiments, the Funkinships will lead fantastic sing-a-longs about Hudson River creatures, and throughout the day, Chris Duffy will get us to learn and laugh in interviews with notable scientists. And you won’t want to miss the Arm of the Sea’s colorful theater performance in the afternoon.

Explore research stations galore

All along the Pier, you’ll have a chance to explore the work of dozens of our amazing partner organizations. With booths that offer insight into a wide array of marine science research areas and stewardship efforts, you’ll gain an engaging look into a broad, exciting and important field. From underwater robotics to shark tagging to ocean navigation – abundant interactive learning opportunities await.

Spend time on the mighty Hudson

Climb aboard the Research Vessel Seawolf for a dockside tour and learn about the lives of marine scientists who conduct research on board. Then, explore our estuary waters in a kayak as you paddle with Downtown Boathouse.

Explore, play, learn and enjoy an active day of citizen science! SUBMERGE NYC Marine Science Festival is set to be a spectacular celebration. We’ll see you on Pier 26 from 11 AM – 4 PM!
