Hudson River Dance Festival Set to Inspire and Delight

June 1

The Hudson River Dance Festival returns to Pier 63 on June 8 and 9, bringing top-tier dance companies to our scenic riverfront! With performances that range from kid-friendly to cutting-edge contemporary, this year's festival promises two nights of outstanding artistry, free for the whole community, set against an incomparable backdrop: the mighty Hudson at sunset.

Partnering with the Joyce Theater Foundation, and presented by the SHS Foundation for the third year in a row, the 2017 lineup is an all-star list of modern dance performers, and we’re excited to give you a preview of the companies bringing their best to our riverfront!

The National Dance Institute (NDI), founded by acclaimed New York City Ballet principal dancer Jacques d’Amboise who uses dance to inspire student dancers, will perform excerpts from their 2017 Event of the Year celebrating Harlem.

EVIDENCE, a Brooklyn-based company founded by Ronald K. Brown that integrates traditional African dance with contemporary choreography and spoken word, will wow festival goers with Gatekeepers, an African dance that depicts dancers as “soldiers walking toward heaven, searching for the wounded and looking out to make a safe haven for others to follow.”

A special treat for our audiences, New York City Ballet superstar Wendy Whelan will partner with dancer Brian Brooks for the widely acclaimed duet First Fall from her luminous contemporary dance debut, Restless Creatures.

And bringing a fascinating reinvention to our stage, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, a company known for their groundbreaking mix of methods, cultures and styles, will perform excerpts from their program Strum, a contemporary dance set to Metallica songs.

These incredible performances are sure to make the 2017 Hudson River Dance Festival a delight for all. See you on Pier 63!
