Volunteer Spotlight: New and Existing Programs Thrive in 2017
2017 proved another stellar year for our Volunteer Program! Nearly 2,000 of you donated your time to keep Hudson River Park healthy and beautiful for our millions of annual visitors. Our growing individual and corporate volunteer programs brought more helping hands than ever from the local community, and whether our dedicated volunteers wielded up shovels, brandished paintbrushes, or supported environmental research, we’re grateful to all who pitched in this season!
This year, fresh and exciting programs paved the way for newfound community involvement as we launched Compost Facilitator and Ambassador roles. These awesome volunteers helped us bring our newly expanded compost program to the West Side community through education and awareness efforts and hands-on facilitation.
With more than 200 dedicated volunteers rolling up their sleeves for their Park, our thriving Neighborhood Gardener and HRP Green Team programs continued to make a meaningful impact. These community members proved an instrumental support for Park horticulturalists throughout our four miles of parkland!
Our indispensable Corporate Partners also exercised their green thumbs with extensive planting and beautification projects, while other teams participated in a variety of education-support activities including marine debris cleanups and oyster monitoring and restoration.
Over the course of the season, volunteers installed over 3,230 flowers and grasses, participated in various painting projects, and helped maintain our parklands from Tribeca to Clinton! Other volunteer highlights include 185 volunteers supporting our fundraising events and festivals, and 43 corporate groups joining us for impactful team-building projects during their #HRPVolunteerDay!
Thank you to all who lent a hand this year, and a special thanks to our Volunteer Program’s Presenting Sponsor, Citi, and Supporting Sponsors, Anheuser-Busch InBev, Colgate-Palmolive and Time Warner for making these wonderful programs possible.
