FRIENDS OF HUDSON RIVER PARK’S ANNUAL GALA CELEBRATION
The 18th annual Friends of Hudson River Park Gala broke records, raised roofs and celebrated the Park’s many successes in spectacular style! The evening not only transformed Pier Sixty and Pier 62 into a festive and fun-filled underwater wonderland, it was an astounding and overwhelming show of support that truly inspired.
The sold-out event welcomed nearly 1,000 devoted supporters to our Park’s grandest and most important fundraiser of the year. Following Cocktails by the Carousel and a dazzling boat parade past Pier 62, guests were led to Pier Sixty by the thrilling Cobra Performing Arts Marching Band, who raised the lively crowd’s energy to heart-pounding levels! Once inside, our Grammy and Emmy Award-winning host Harry Connick, Jr. kept the party hopping as we presented keys to Hudson River Park to our honorees for their outstanding contributions: Tony Award-winning actor Matthew Broderick, Friends Board Member Paula Madoff, and NYS Assemblyman Richard Gottfried, who has been a fierce Park champion ever since its inception in 1998 when he co-authored the Hudson River Park Act.
Memorable moments and notable New Yorkers created excitement all night long. The live auction had anxious bidders scooping up a Bloomingdale’s shopping date with Sarah Jessica Parker and private dinner party hosted by David Chang and Martha Stewart. The Gala’s show-stopping video saw our newest (any maybe youngest) Park fan, Boy-Yo, stealing the spotlight from Million Dollar Listing star and ardent supporter, Ryan Serhant. And the after-party dance floor rocked late into the night, thanks to Grammy Award-winning entertainer CeeLo Green.
Friends of Hudson River Park’s collective Board of Directors also made a substantial and meaningful contribution by sponsoring the treasured Habitat Garden, official launching the newly created endowment program Garden Guardians, which ensures the Park’s display gardens, wildlife habitats, lawns, trees and flowers continue to flourish in their gloriously diverse and beautiful landscapes—the unique botanical beauty that makes our beloved backyard a prized destination and incomparable natural resource.
Friends’ 2016 Gala raised $3.1 million—a significant increase over previous years—to benefit New York’s Park for Play. To all of our sponsors and wonderful Friends who joined the celebration: THANK YOU! The impact of your generosity and involvement is extraordinary and helps guide Hudson River Park toward continued success.
The Friends of Hudson River Park Gala has always been a premier NYC event, joining Friends from myriad communities and all facets of industry for one unifying purpose: to celebrate New York’s Park for Play and lend support to its continued care and ongoing, exciting expansion.
