The design for HRPK’s Pier 26 is inspired by the Manhattan shoreline that would have existed prior to Henry Hudson’s 1609 expedition. The pier includes a series of ecological communities representing this native landscape, including a woodland forest, rocky tidal zone and the Hudson River itself.
One of the most unique of these native coastal environments is a manufactured rocky tidal marsh, the Tide Deck which is located on the western end of the Pier. The Tide Deck and its marsh plants ebb and flood with our daily tidal cycle; the Tide Deck also features many interesting habitat enhancements, including tide pools.
This season, we are offering socially-distant tours on the Tide Deck walkway. Join our River Project staff to learn more about this special environment during Tide Deck Tours. This event is not ticketed; however, tour capacity is extremely limited—we encourage you to show up early to reserve your space.
Stay tuned for additional opportunities to tour the Tide Deck this summer.
