Put your claws up Crustacean Nation – it’s time for our favorite crabstravaganza!
Crab Week is an annual marine science shell-ebration that highlights the biodiversity of the Hudson River through our friendly neighborhood decapods. Crabs are an important part of our local ecosystem and play a vital role in supporting a healthy and balanced marine environment.
Hudson River Park’s 400-acre Estuarine Sanctuary is home to eight species of local crabs that we’re excited to pass the spotlight to during this next week. These crafty crustaceans can be found in environments throughout Hudson River Park including pile fields, mud flats, oyster reef balls and salt marsh.
This year, we’re scuttling throughout Hudson River Park and into the city beyond to remind New Yorkers of the amazing biodiversity all around them and bring you more clawntent than ever (be sure to follow along on Instagram, Facebook and X)! Get ready for crabtivating facts that you can share at parties, crabtivities for the whole family and lots of fun ways to get in touch with your inner crustacean.
