Boat Building at Pier 40

If you have an affinity for working with wood and enjoy fine craftsmanship, then Hudson River Park offers excellent opportunities to explore. The Park’s non-profit partners at the Village Community Boathouse offer a variety of opportunities for locals to learn about and engage in boatbuilding and seamanship.

Participants learn woodcraft, the operation of power tools, and the camaraderie and satisfaction of creating a wooden boat from scratch. VCB’s fleet of more than 30 wooden boats were mostly built in our 7,500 square foot shop on Pier 40 by community and student volunteers. Sessions are free, no advance registration is required and no experience is necessary.

Pier 40

At more than 15 acres, Pier 40 is the largest pier along the Hudson River. This mixed-use commercial/recreation pier generates revenue for the overall Park’s care while also hosting boating, our River Project and much-loved public ball fields.
