Strengthening Community Connections

Through its free programs, volunteer opportunities and abundant recreational and green spaces, Hudson River Park helps build healthy communities and vibrant neighborhoods. As more and more families have chosen the West Side as their home since the Park’s inception, it has become an increasingly important part of their daily lives.

I lived near HRPK in my early 20s and moved back recently as I started a family. The Park has always been a source of energy for me — some of my favorite New York moments are the runs I’ve taken along the waterfront, whether early in the morning or at sunset. Now I feel so lucky that my daughters get to grow up with this vibrant outdoor world right in their backyard…  We love raising our family downtown, and the Park is a huge part of why we can imagine doing that for years to come.”

The Park is a crucial hub for youth sports and recreation, giving young athletes a safe place to build healthy habits and a chance to develop confidence, build teamwork and create lifelong friendships. Across the seasons, athletic fields throughout the Park accommodate adult and youth leagues at multiple locations, offering nearly 25,000 hours of play for more than 70 local sports organizations.

The Park’s impact extends beyond its fields to the water itself. As warmer weather arrives each spring, Hudson River Park’s four boathouses come back to life, inviting park users to experience the Hudson River by kayak, canoe, sailboat, stand-up paddleboard and more. Along the Park’s four miles, non-motorized boating programs serving tens of thousands of visitors create safe and affordable ways to make the Hudson River accessible to New Yorkers.
