The State law that created the Park, the Hudson River Park Act, also created the Hudson River Park Advisory Council.

To view future meeting dates, as well as minutes and agendas from past meetings, visit our Advisory Council Meeting Information page.

The Advisory Council includes elected officials representing communities neighboring the Park as well as representatives of local community, park, environmental, civic, labor and business organizations. By statute, Advisory Council members must reside in New York State.

The Advisory Council advises and makes recommendations to the Hudson River Park Trust’s Board of Directors on matters regarding the planning, design, construction and operation of the Park. The Advisory Council Chair generally provides a report at every Hudson River Park Trust Board of Directors meeting regarding matters considered at the most recent Advisory Council meeting.

Governance & Membership

The Advisory Council operates in accordance with Bylaws previously adopted by the Advisory Council and approved by the Trust’s Board of Directors. Advisory Council membership consists of three primary categories: 1) elected officials directly representing the Park area; 2) individuals directly appointed by certain elected officials identified in the Hudson River Park Act; and 3) representatives from organizations meeting the membership requirements and approved by both the Advisory Council and the Trust Board of Directors. View a list of current Advisory Council members.

Consistent with the Bylaws, the Advisory Council Chair and other officers rotate between the three community boards in which Hudson River Park is located: Manhattan Community Board 1, Manhattan Community Board 2 and Manhattan Community Board 4. Each of these three community boards selects its delegate to the Advisory Council independently. Please review the Bylaws for more information on membership and governance requirements. Members of the Advisory Council serve without compensation.

From time to time, there are openings for new Advisory Council members. On such occasions, the Advisory Council considers new applications through an application process. Currently, there are no Advisory Council openings; however, as noted below, meetings are public and all are welcome to attend.

Public Meetings

The full Advisory Council typically holds public meetings approximately six times each year. Members of the Trust’s staff attend such meetings to present information and to answer questions about the Park. Advisory Council meetings are scheduled by the Advisory Council Chair and are posted on this website page once meeting dates are calendared. Once announced, please check back here to confirm the meeting is still occurring as anticipated. In addition to the full Advisory Council, certain Advisory Council committees also meet as needed.

For future public meeting dates as well as minutes and agendas from past meetings, visit the Advisory Council Meeting Information page.
