Debbie Knapper and the Knappertime Band

Jazz at Pier 84

Celebrate all things jazz with music by local legends on Wednesdays in Hudson River Park!

About the Artist

Debbie Knapper is a renowned funk guitarist whose career spans decades, playing locally and abroad. She taught herself by ear starting at age 13. At age 19, she landed her first paying gig with gospel and R&B Sensation, Marvin Sease.

Since then, her incredible talent has been undeniable. She has recorded with the legendary producer Mtume, done world tours with Kit McClure, Kelis and Breaking Point, and played with various artists including Toshi Reagon and Cuba Gooding, Sr. from the Main Ingredient, among others.

In the 80s and 90s she was co-musical director for the all-female band IBIS, and currently she leads her own band, Knappertime. For the last 21 years she has run a popping Open Mic every Sunday night at Oasis in Baldwin, NY.

About Jazz at Pier 84

As a spirited tribute to NYC’s storied history of jazz, this Park-favorite series features local legends in a lineup of free performances on Manhattan’s riverfront. Combining smooth tunes with beautiful Hudson River Park evenings, Jazz at Pier 84 keeps music an integral part of our public programming, thanks to our sponsor the Jazz Foundation of America.
