On June 19, 1865, Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas at the conclusion of the Civil War to free the remaining enslaved Black Americans, nearly two and a half years after Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. June 19, referenced as Juneteenth, is often considered the official end of slavery in the United States and the nation’s second Independence Day.
Throughout the week of Juneteenth, Hudson River Park welcomes you to join events that celebrate local Black artists and voices and create opportunities for celebration of, and reflection on, this vital part of America’s history.

On Saturday, June 15, Blacklist NYC will be hosting their Buy Black Market in Pier 57’s beautiful Living Room space. Featuring a variety of artists, vendors, and makers — including fine artists, jewelry-makers, photographers, card game designers, and more — the Buy Black Marketplace features, supports, and elevates New York artists and makers of color.

On Thursday, June 20, Jimmy Hill and the Allstarz Band take the Blues, one of Brooklyn’s most electrifying and long-running musical ensembles, join us in celebration at the Boardwalk series, presented in partnership with Jazz Foundation of America. The Allstars have played the Apollo, BB King’s, the Cutting Room and the Essence Club and we’re thrilled to welcome them to our waterfront.
Sunset on the Hudson: Resistance Revival Chorus

Featuring more than 60 women and non-binary singers, this collective joins together to breathe joy and song into the resistance while uplifting women’s voices. Members of the chorus hail from diverse professional fields and represent a multitude of identities, creative backgrounds and activist causes. Every Friday, the Park’s long-running Sunset on the Hudson music series features Queer and BIPOC artists integral to New York, and on Friday, June 21, we look forward to Resistance Revival Chorus’s return to our Pier 45 stage.
