If you’re looking for an athletic challenge, consider trying outrigger canoe paddling, an ancient sport with deep roots in Polynesian culture. Ranging from the recreational to the competitive paddler, New York Outrigger offers a variety of training programs focused on educating new and experienced paddlers on how to safely navigate local waterways.

New York Outrigger, a volunteer-driven, non-profit educational organization, provides instruction and equipment for outrigger canoeing from the Pier 66  boathouse. Outrigger canoeing is a great team activity — try it and you may get hooked.

While you’re in the area, be sure to check out the Frying Pan — serving hot food and cold drinks in a cool place, right on the Hudson River.
