It’s Time to Roll Up Your Sleeves for Your Park!

Spring may have arrived with a fresh blanket of snow, but Hudson River Park is gearing up for the green seasons ahead, and we’re calling on Park lovers like you to join us! Our 2018 Volunteer Program will kick off with more ways to get involved than ever before. Whether you’ve got a green thumb or you’re a sustainability all-star, you can help your Park thrive and join our community of dedicated volunteers!

The first HRPK Green Team volunteer day of the year is Saturday, March 31, and we can’t wait to get back in the field! Our HRPK Green Team works alongside Park horticulturists on select Saturdays from March through November to plant, paint, trim, mulch and more—beautifying your Park and getting to know a team of likeminded neighbors.

Last year’s HRPK Green Team dedicated nearly 700 hours of much-appreciated assistance to our gorgeous riverfront backyard, and with even more volunteer events scheduled this year, we’re ready for another outstanding season. No experience is needed, and you can sign up for as many or as few dates as you’d like!

Now entering its sixth season, our Neighborhood Gardener Program offers a rewarding and unique opportunity to learn about the daily care of an urban Park. Neighborhood Gardeners make a weekly commitment, working closely and training with our expert Horticulture team to keep our Park beautiful and enhance its biodiversity and overall ecological health.

Interested in helping us support more sustainable west side communities? In 2017 we launched an expanded Community Compost Program, with seven drop-off sites along our four-mile footprint, and developed a brand new team of Compost Volunteers. As a result, we were able to divert over 30,000 pounds of food scraps from becoming trash, turning them into nutrient rich soil.

This year we project another 50,000 pounds of food scraps will be processed, and you can help as we grow our capacity and our advocacy! Join us as a Compost Ambassador to help us raise awareness and provide helpful information to Park patrons or as a Compost Facilitator to play a key role in the day-to-day processing and surveying of organic waste in our Compost Center.

Ready to get involved? Email [email protected] for more information or to sign up! Now is the perfect time to reach out—HRPK Green Team kicks off Saturday, March 31, our Neighborhood Gardener orientation is scheduled for April 2 and we’ll kick off our Compost Program volunteer season in May. See you in the Park!
