A Note on Our Willow Trees

While it may look like a drastic act to chop off the large arm-like branches of the willow trees in our Stonefield Native Garden, it’s actually a preventative action to keep parkgoers safe.

During a windstorm, weak willow branches can snap off and because they have a shallow root system, they may actually tip over. To help balance the trees, they get a crown reduction each spring.

Don’t worry though! The trees will soon send out new whips and leaves to provide shade and breezy beauty come summer.
