Max Size: Up to 30cm (1 foot) leg span

Habitat: Bays, estuaries, and shorelines along the east coast

Diet: Forages for algae, sea stars

Fun Facts:

  • Sometimes called decorator crabs. Carapace is covered in tiny, hooked hairs that it uses to attach plants, sponges, and other organic material to itself
  • Can walk forward and sideways, unlike most crabs
  • Very docile relies on camouflage for protection
