Joaquin Pozo y la Clave Suena

Jazz at Pier 84

Celebrate all things jazz with music by local legends on Wednesdays in Hudson River Park!

About the Artist

Originally from Havana, percussionist Joaquin Pozo has been called “El Pulpo” (The Octopus) because his two-handed conga style rivals the eight hands of four drummers. Pozo brings 35 years of experience and profound versatility to his vibrant performances.

Having founded the rumba-infused Havana group Jazz Millenium and performed on four continents, in recent years he has been a welcome addition to the musical landscape of Harlem. An innovator in Latin styles from rumba to jazz, Pozo leads this five-piece ensemble on journeys through Afro-Cuban rhythms.

About Jazz at Pier 84

As a spirited tribute to NYC’s storied history of jazz, this Park-favorite series features local legends in a lineup of free performances on Manhattan’s riverfront. Combining smooth tunes with beautiful Hudson River Park evenings, Jazz at Pier 84 keeps music an integral part of our public programming, thanks to our sponsor the Jazz Foundation of America.
