What is your primary role at your organization?
I am Executive Director at Hudson Guild, the largest social and human services organization that serves the west corridor along Hudson River Park.
What drives you to be involved with Hudson River Park?
Hudson River Park — the open space, the green space, the waterfront — is essential to the west side. It is where we relax, exercise and experience nature in a crowded urban environment. Our programs — for children, older adults and others, use the Park as part of our activities. And so many of the individuals and families who are part of Hudson Guild, as well as many of my colleagues, use the Park regularly. It is such a valuable resource for the community, and we want to make sure that we are a helpful partner.
Is there anything else you would like to highlight about your organization, your personal involvement, or any upcoming projects you’d like to promote?
Hudson Guild was here when the waterfront was a regular shipping port, and then through the tough years when what is now the park was uncared for and dangerous. How great that it is now a jewel where we can bring children to the playgrounds, hold photography classes with older adults and organize staff outings — it is fantastic!
What aspect of working with HRPK Friends on the Business Council is the most rewarding for you?
The Business Council is an interesting, engaged group of people, mostly from the private sector, who have made a commitment to ensuring that our park has the support and attention it needs, and that there is a community of professionals that values the Park’s place in the business and lives of the people on the West Side.
